The Lumberjack Women's Basketball team fell in the Region 13 Championship game Sunday after a come from behind victory in the semi finals Saturday.
The Jacks found themselves down 49-39 at the half on Saturday and outscored the Samsons by 15 points in the second half to win 77-72. Jersey Vogel led all scorers and three Lumberjacks in double figures with 28 points. Mel Upfield added 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Serinity Soland finished with 11 points.
In the Championship game on Sunday the Jacks held a 19-18 lead after the opening quarter but struggled in the second stanza and trailed 45-36 at halftime. A competitive 3rd quarter found the Jacks down just 11 to start the final quarter. In the final quarter United Tribes shot 56.5% from the field and out scored the Jacks 32-11 to take the win 95-59.
Vogel led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 24. Brooke Anderson hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11, and Soland scored 10.
Vogel and Upfield were named to the All-Region 13 team. Vogel broke two records from the charity stripe this season. Jersey shot an impressive 85% from the line this season. The previous record was held by Jackie Miller who shot 83.3% during the 2012-13 season. Jersey also made 164 free throws topping Chelsea Frazier who made 151 free throws in the 2014-15 season. As a team DCB shot 76.8% from the line which is currently best in NJCAA Division II.
