The Lumberjack Men's Basketball team's season came to a heartbreaking end Saturday afternoon. Dakota County Technical College hit a deep 3-pointer just before time expired in overtime to take the win 104-103.
A back and forth first half saw the game tied seven times and four lead changes. The Jacks took a narrow 42-39 lead into the locker room, thanks in part to 16 points off the bench for Elijah Reynolds.
The Jacks opened the second half hot, building a nine-point lead early. Nine points was the largest lead of the game for either team. The Blue Knights railed back tying the game. Down the stretch there was very little separation. With 17 seconds remaining DCTC would hit a deep 3-pointer to tie the game at 86-86. On the ensuing DCB possession the Blue Knights would force a jump ball and get the possession. DCTC's desperation shot at the buzzer missed and the teams prepared for overtime. The overtime was much like regulation very little separation. Leading by 2 with 3.6 seconds left DCB had a bonus free throw rim out giving DCTC a chance to force overtime or tie the game. Yarin Alexander would hit a 30-footer to give the Blue Knights the win and end the Jacks season. 104-103.
MarQuez Tyree led five Lumberjacks in double figures with 25 points 14 of them coming in the second half. Reynolds finished with 24. Damjan Tapuskovic finished with 17 points and was named to the all-Region 13 team. Edward Lual added 12 and Moustapha Diomande added 10. Alexander led all scorers with 34 points.
The Jacks season ends with a record of 18-13.
