Defense Propels Jacks to Key Victory

The Lumberjack Men's Basketball team took a big step towards locking up the right to host the Region 13 Tournament for the first time in 10 years on Monday night. The Jacks held Region 13 and Mon-Dak foe United Tribes Technical College to just 27 second half points enroute to a 90-65 victory.

The Jacks jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the early going. The Thunderbirds responded with a 9-0 run of their own. DCB got back into it with a 6-0 run regain the lead. For the remainder of the half the Jacks were able to maintain a narrow lead. At the half the Jacks led 41-38.

UTTC hit a three to open the second half, scoring and tied the game at 41-41. For much of the second half points were at a premium with both teams struggling to score. A basket by the Thunderbirds with just over 11 minutes remaining would make the score 58-55 in favor of DCB. From there it would be all Lumberjacks as the Jacks outscored UTTC 32-10 over the final 11 minutes of the game to take the victory by a final score of 90-65.

Damjan Tapuskovic led all scorers and three Lumberjacks in double figures with 23 points; he also pulled down 13 rebounds for a double-double. Edward Lual scored 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. MarQuez Tyree finished with 10 points off the bench and was one rebound shy of a double-double of his own. Benjaman OldPerson-Harlow led UTTC with 16 points.

With the win DCB improves to 17-10 overall and 4-5 inside Mon-Dak. The Jacks find themselves in the driver's seat to host the Region 13 Tournament on February 28th and March 1st.  The scenarios are simple one Lumberjack victory over their final three games or one Thunderbirds loss over their final four games secures DCB the host rights. Stay tuned to DCB social media channels for updates. The Jacks are next in action Sunday at 3:00p.m. inside "The Woodshed" vs Miles Community College.
