Elijah Reynolds scored 32 points off the bench on 12-18 shooting to lead the Lumberjack Men's Basketball team past Williston State College 104-88 in the Mon-Dak Conference opener.
The teams traded baskets and the lead multiple times throughout the opening 10 minutes of the first half. As the half neared the 10-minute mark the Jacks took control finishing the half on a 26-13 run to take a 46-33 lead into the locker room. The Jacks were able to take control in the first half thanks in part to 13 points from Reynolds on 5-10 shooting. The DCB defense was also able to limit Josiah McDonald to just two points from the free throw line and 0-6 from the field in the first half. McDonald entered the contest as the leading scorer in NJCAA Division I.
Early on the second half The Tetons started to work their way back into the game. McDonald and Carson Haerer started to heat up for WSC. With 12 minutes to go WSC tied the game at 64-64. Over the next several minutes the teams would exchange baskets The lead would never grow by more than two possessions for quite a while. A Jaden Arzola 3-pointer would push the Lumberjack lead to three possessions. The Tetons would fail to get any closer than that three-possession deficit. Reynolds scored 19 second half points including a perfect 4-4 on 3pointers. Damjan Tapuskovic scored 15 points in the second half to also contribute. The Jacks went on to win by a final score of 104-88. Reynolds finished with 32 points to lead all scorers and four Lumberjacks in double figures. Tapuskovic finished with 24, Arzola added 15 and Moustapha Diomande finished with 10. Haerer led the Tetons with 24 points. The DCB defense held McDonald the nation's leading scorer to just 20 points. McDonald entered the contest averaging nearly 27 points a game.
With the win DCB improves to 13-5 overall and 1-0 inside the Mon-Dak. The Jacks travel to Devils Lake Sunday for another conference match-up with Lake Region State College. Tip-off is set for 3:00p.m.
