Jacks Fall on Sophomore Day

The Lumberjack Baseball team dropped their home finale Thursday afternoon falling in a pair of close games to Lake Region State College 16-13 and 9-8.

The Royals jumped out front 14-0, a 4-run 4th and a 3-run 5th inning kept the Jacks alive. The Royals tacked on two more runs in the 6th to make it 16-7 but the Jacks didn't go away, scoring 6 runs in the home half of the 7th before falling 16-13. Boyd Anderson led the offensive attack with 4 RBIs and two stolen bases adding to his record setting season on the basepaths. Aidan McCoy, Brennan Niewinski, and Carlos Urrieche all doubled in the game and drove in a run. Dominic Holmstrup, Carter Ralston, Austin Neilson, and Logan Beck were also all credited with an RBI. Chris Losey had one strikeout on the mound and Branson Peterson struck out two Royals in relief.

A 7th inning rally allowed the Royals to take game two 9-8. Anderson led the Jacks again with 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Engerben Moreno also drove in two runs on two hits. Tristen Chandler also had a hit that resulted in two runs coming in. Niewinski and McCoy backed up their first game performances with a two-hit performance in game two. Andrew Renken also got in on the action with a double. Neilson had a base hit and was walked for the 31st time this season breaking a single season school record previously held by Joe Plett who drew 30 walks last season. Killian Snarr went 5 innings on the mound and registered 4 strikeouts. Cooper Coble struck out two in a relief appearance and Niewinski sat down one also in relief.

The Jacks are scheduled to wrap up their regular season tomorrow at Lake Region with the doubleheader getting underway at 1:00p.m.
