The Lumberjack Men's Hockey team earned their first two wins of the year sweeping Lake Region State College 3-1 on Friday and 7-4 on Saturday.
3-1 Win
Lake Region got on the board first less than a minute into the contest. Nick Cofer evened the game at 1-1 with a powerplay goal just prior to the halfway point of the first period, Kayden Cey and Christian Crutcher were credited with the assists. Cey would give the Jacks the lead with 4 minutes to go in the first period Marshall Kiteley and Ryan Pagel had the assists. Gage Fox tacked on an insurance goal in the second period to secure the win for the Jacks, Coen Schmeichel and Aidan Diehl dished the assists. Carson Lockhart earned the win in net with 47 saves.
7-4 Win
The Royals got on the board first for the second straight day. DCB responded in a big way with four goals in the second period. Fox connected with Schmeichel and Cey just 11 seconds into the second period to tie the game. The tie didn't last long as the Royals retook the lead with a powerplay goal just three minutes later. Crutcher would tie the game with an unassisted goal just three minutes later. Marcus Loorits gave the Jacks the lead late in in the second period with Carter Ralston and Jacob Kjorstad were credited with the assists. DCB extended the lead just 34 seconds later as Jeremy Klimchuk found the back of the net thanks to assists from Riley Opperude and Kiteley. Schmeichel scored on the powerplay to open the scoring in the third period and Cey had the assist. Two Lake Region goals within 30 seconds of each other would bring the Royals back to within one at 5-4. The Jacks responded with a pair of powerplay goals to stretch the lead back out and pick up the weekend sweep. The first of the two goals was scored by Cey with Crutcher and Ralston assisting. The second came off the stick of Cofer ands Cey and Ralston added another assist to each of their stat lines. Josh Mack earned the win in net for DCB with 33 saves.
DCB improves their record to 2-4-0-0. The Jack are back in action with a split doubleheader Friday hosting the University of Jamestown at 7:00p.m. and then traveling to Jamestown Saturday game time is also set for 7:00p.m.
