The DCB football team improved to 4-1 on the season, 3-0 in the MCAC West Division, with a 51-23 victory over Minnesota West Community and Technical College at Les Christian Field.
DCB started the scoring early as Elijah Todd scored on a 23 yard run to give the Lumberjacks the early 7-0 lead. Minnesota West responded with a 16 yard touchdown pass to Reginald Colson to tie the game before Todd scored again to give DCB a 14-7 lead at the end of one quarter. DCB then scored 23 points in the 2nd stanza while holding MW to a field goal to lead 37-10 at halftime. Touchdown passes from Jackson Argoe to Quay Harvey and Sam Cassell, a TD run by Derante Sanders, and a safety by the DCB defense accounted for the scoring.
Sanders scored again the 3rd quarter to give the Lumberjacks a 44-10 lead after the period. Another Sanders score and a couple of scores against DCB's 2nd and 3rd team players accounted for the final score.
For the Lumberjacks, Derante Sanders and Elijah Todd both rushed for over 100 yards and accounted for 5 TD's between them. Jackson Argoe was 11-19 through the air for 214 yards and 2 more TD's. Kevonta Moses caught 6 passes for 72 yards to lead the receiving corps. The DCB offense had another balanced and productive day, gaining 278 yards on the ground and another 219 through the air. Meanwhile, the DCB defense held Minnesota West to over 150 yards less than their season average, with about half of that coming in the 4th quarter with the game already decided. The Lumberjacks also forced 3 turnovers and scored a Safety. Nick Madourie had 5 Tackles for Loss and 3 sacks on the day and forced a fumble which was recovered by the Lumberjacks. Isaiah McLean intercepted his 3rd pass of the season as well. The DCB secondary played very well, holding the leading receiver in the NJCAA, Reginald Colson, to 4 catches for 49 yards. Colson was averaging 170 yards receiving coming into the contest.
The win sets up a showdown on Saturday, October 7th in Wahpeton between DCB and North Dakota Science. Both teams are 4-1 and 3-0 in the MCAC West, so the winner will claim sole possession of the division lead. Game time is 2:00 in Wahpeton.
