DCB Student-Athletes Continue to Earn Academic Honors

The National Junior College Athletic Association recently named their All-Academic Student Athlete Awards, with 14 DCB Student-Athletes being recognized among the top academic athletes in the country.

The NJCAA awards a First Team, Second Team, and Third Team honor teams, with all students needing to earn at least a 3.6 Grade Point Average in order to qualify.

All First Team recipients have to have a perfect 4.0 GPA in order to be named to this team.  The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks had 4 players named.  Women's Basketball players Darby Deckert and Morgan Kersten and Men's Ice Hockey Players Parker Sharp and Jonathan Sundell earned this honor.

Second Team honorees have to earn a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99 in order to qualify.  Earning this honor for DCB were Ladyjack basketball player Chelsie Diebert, Ladyjack basketball and softball standout Lauren Mach, Lumberjack Ice Hockey Players David Bures and Zach Garrett, and Lumberjack football player Spencer Dorsey.

Every member named Third Team all Academic needed a GPA of between 3.60 and 3.79 to earn this distinction.  Lumberjack basketball player Abdul-Hakim Fofana, Men's Ice Hockey players Braden Pewe, Jesse Mendel, and Kenny Fitzgerald, and Ladyjack Volleyball and Basketball standout Stephanie Brenden were named to this team.

Also, earlier this week the DCB Ladyjack Basketball Team finished as an honorable mention selection for the NJCAA Women's Basketball Academic Team of the Year with a cumulative GPA of 3.34 in 2016-17.

In addition, well over 60 DCB student-athletes were named to various conference and regional all-academic teams this past school year.
